Idle Dreadnought Privacy Policy

Effective 4 October 2026 · Applies to Idle Dreadnought on Android (Google Play, Samsung Galaxy Store, Amazon Appstore and games.griffhutt.com builds) and in the web browser.

Idle Dreadnought is made by Griffiths Programming Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14200981, registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, England, WC2H 9JQ), which is the data controller for the information described here. The short version: the game keeps your progress on your own device. The Android app can show optional rewarded video ads from Google AdMob (section 6), which you never have to watch; otherwise nothing about you leaves your device unless you choose to send us a bug report or say yes to sharing anonymous gameplay statistics, apart from crash reports (section 2a), which you can turn off in Settings. There are no accounts and no in-app purchases, and the web version has no ads.

1. Your saved game (stays on your device)

Your progress, settings and save slots are stored locally: in the app's private storage on Android, or in your browser's local storage on the web. We cannot see them. Uninstalling the app (or clearing the site's data in your browser) deletes them.

On Android, the system's own backup feature may include the app's data in your device backup, if you have turned backup on. That backup is run by your device and Google under your Google account settings, not by us.

2. Bug and feedback reports (only when you send one)

The game has a Report bug option in Settings and after a run. A report contains:

WhatWhy
The description and category you chooseTo understand the problem
A copy of your current saved game and settingsTo reproduce the exact moment you saw
A small screenshot of the game screen (not other apps)To see what you saw
The game's recent log (game events, errors, crash details)To find the cause
Device facts: operating system version, processor type, graphics chip, screen size, the game's graphics setting, app version, and which store or website the game was installed fromBugs often depend on the device
A random install ID the game made up when it was first started (not linked to your device, account or advertising ID; a reinstall gets a new one)To send you a thank-you reward when we act on your feedback

After you send feedback, and only until that report's bonus has been applied, the game also uses that random install ID, without anything else, to ask whether the feedback has been approved for a reward. It asks a few seconds later, then every few minutes while the game runs. If you never send feedback, it never asks.

A report does not contain your name, email address, location, contacts, advertising ID or any hardware device identifier, and we do not ask you to sign in. Please do not type personal information into the description.

Reports are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage, which Cloudflare operates for us as a service provider. Cloudflare handles network data such as your IP address to deliver the upload, under its own privacy policy; we do not add your IP address to reports.

Reports are deleted automatically 60 days after they are received. We use them only to diagnose and fix problems in the game. We do not sell them, share them with anyone else, or use them for advertising.

2a. Crash reports (sent automatically; you can turn this off)

If the game crashes, freezes, or is closed by the system while it starts up, it sends us a crash report the next time you open it, so we can fix the problem even if you never tell us about it. This is on by default. To stop it, turn off Settings → Send crash reports automatically; crash reports are then kept on your device and listed under Settings → Bug reports, where you can send them yourself. A crash report contains:

WhatWhy
The error and where in the game's code it happened, or the system's crash or "not responding" record for the game (its own technical trace only)To find the cause
How far the game had got in starting up, and the game's recent log linesTo find the cause
A one-line game summary (save slot, stage, runs, wave), not the save itselfTo see what the game was doing
Device facts: operating system version, device model, app version, which store or website the game was installed from, the graphics setting, how much memory the game was usingCrashes often depend on the device
The random install ID described aboveTo limit how many reports one install can send

A crash report never contains your save file, a screenshot, anything you typed, or any personal information. It is sent, stored and deleted (after 60 days) exactly like a bug report.

3. Update checks (games.griffhutt.com builds only)

Copies of the game downloaded from games.griffhutt.com, and the web version, check games.griffhutt.com for a newer version. These requests carry no personal data beyond what any web request does (such as your IP address, kept only in short-lived server logs). The Google Play, Galaxy Store and Amazon Appstore versions do not do this: the store delivers their updates.

4. Notifications (on your device)

On Android the game can remind you when research or a build has finished, when Warp Charge is full or when new missions arrive. These reminders are worked out and scheduled by the game on your device from your local save; there is no notification server, and nothing is sent to us or anyone else when one is scheduled, shown or tapped. On Android 13 and later the game asks for the notification permission first, and you can turn each kind of reminder, quiet hours or all of them off in Settings → Notifications (or in your phone's settings).

5. Gameplay statistics (on by default outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland, with an off switch)

In the EU, the EEA and Switzerland (and if the game cannot tell where you are), the game asks once, after your first run: "Help balance the game? Share anonymous gameplay stats". Nothing is sent unless you tap Share. Everywhere else, including the UK, the statistics are on by default: after your first run the game shows a short notice ("Anonymous gameplay stats help us balance the game. You can turn them off in Settings."), and until it has been shown nothing is stored or sent. In both cases you can change this at any time in Settings → Share gameplay stats, and if you had already said no, we keep that. When the statistics are on, the game sends small records of how the game is played, over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our game server (idledreadnought-api.griffithsprogramming.uk):

WhatWhy
Game events: app opened, session length, tutorial steps, runs started and ended (wave, length, why it ended), ship stage reached, shipyard purchases (what kind, how much in-game currency), features unlocked, rewarded-ad offers and results, bug reports sent, graphics setting changes, slot use, and the type of a crashTo see where players get stuck or stop playing, and to balance the game
A random statistics ID made by the game when the statistics are on, the day you first played, and a random ID for each play sessionTo count returning players (for example "how many come back after a week") without knowing who they are
Which copy of the game it is and what it runs on: game version, build and channel, the app package, where you got it (for example Google Play, Galaxy Store, a download from our site, or the website that shows the web version), the operating system version, the phone or tablet model, the graphics setting, and the country Cloudflare's network saw the request fromTo compare versions, stores and devices

The statistics ID is random: it is not your advertising ID, device ID, name or account, and we cannot link it to you. Turning them off (now or later in Settings) stops the statistics at once and deletes the ID and any unsent records from your device; turning them on again later makes a new, unrelated ID. We do not store your IP address with the statistics. The records are stored in Cloudflare Workers Analytics Engine, which Cloudflare operates for us as a service provider, and are deleted automatically after about 3 months; we keep only totals (such as "40% of players came back the next day") after that. We do not sell them, share them or use them for advertising.

6. Optional rewarded ads (Android app only)

The Android app offers optional rewarded videos, for example "Watch ad · ×2 rewards" at the end of a run or extra Warp Charge. Watching is always your choice: nothing in the game requires it, and closing an ad early just means no reward. The web version has no ads.

In the Google Play, Galaxy Store and games.griffhutt.com versions the ads are served by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited in the UK, EEA and Switzerland; Google LLC elsewhere). The Amazon Appstore version (Fire tablets) uses Liftoff Monetize instead (below). So that an ad is ready when you ask for one, the app loads one in the background once the consent step below allows it. To serve, measure and protect ads against fraud, Google's software in the app collects:

WhatWhy
Your device's advertising ID and app set IDFrequency capping, fraud prevention, measurement and, only if you allow it, personalised ads
IP address (and an approximate location derived from it)Delivering the ad, fraud prevention, regional rules
Device and app information (model, OS version, language, app version) and how you interact with ads (views, taps, whether a video was watched to the end)Showing a working ad, measuring it, granting your reward

Google uses this data under its own policies; see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy. We do not receive your advertising ID or any personal data from these ads; we only see aggregate reports (such as how many ads were shown).

Your choices. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland the app asks for your consent with Google's consent message (the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) before ads can be personalised or use your device's storage for advertising. In US states with privacy laws, the message lets you opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your data for targeted advertising. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy options (shown where these laws apply). You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your Android settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads). If you decline, the game may show non-personalised ads, or no ad offers at all.

Amazon Appstore version: Liftoff Monetize. On Fire tablets the ads are served by Liftoff Monetize (Vungle, Inc. and its affiliates, "Liftoff"), which collects the same kinds of data as the table above: your device's advertising ID (on Fire tablets, Amazon's advertising ID), IP address and approximate location, device and app information, and how you interact with ads. Liftoff uses it to deliver, measure and protect ads against fraud and, only if you allow it, to personalise them; see the Liftoff Privacy Policy. On first launch the app asks you once whether Liftoff may personalise ads. Either answer still lets you watch rewarded ads. "Non-personalised only" is passed to Liftoff as no consent (UK/EEA/Switzerland) and as an opt-out of "sale" or "sharing" (US states). You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy options, and limit ad tracking in your Fire tablet's settings (Settings → Privacy → Interest-based ads). We do not receive your advertising ID or any personal data from these ads either.

Ad requests are marked as not directed at children, and AdMob ad content is limited to a maximum rating of "Teen".

7. Legal basis (UK GDPR)

We process bug reports on the basis of our legitimate interest in finding and fixing problems in the game, and only when you choose to send one. Crash reports rely on the same legitimate interest: they hold technical data only, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings. We process gameplay statistics on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings → Share gameplay stats. Personalised ads, and the use of your device's storage for advertising, rely on your consent, which you can withdraw in Settings → Privacy options; non-personalised ads rely on our legitimate interest in funding the game with optional ads.

8. Children

Idle Dreadnought is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Bug and crash reports and gameplay statistics contain no information that identifies the player. Ad requests are tagged as not child-directed and limited to "Teen" content at most.

9. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of a report you sent, or ask us to delete it before the 60 days are up. For gameplay statistics, the statistics ID is shown under Settings → Share gameplay stats; send it to us to ask for a copy or for deletion before the 3 months are up. Each report has an id (shown in the game's Bug reports list, for example 20261002-153012-a1b2); include it so we can find the report, since we have no other way to link a report to you. In the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

10. Changes

If the game starts collecting anything new (for example if we add ads or purchases), we will update this policy and the date above before that version is released.
